The Basics

ADDRESS: 21045 Colorado Highway 67, Divide, Colorado

LOCATION: Approximately 35 miles west of Colorado Springs

LAST VISIT: 2009

I think we would call Mueller State Park the pinnacle of camping experiences!
We haven't been there for years, but that's not because we don't want to go back; we've just never been able to get reservations for more than a day or two, and it's too far of a drive to go for such a short time.
The sites are spaced out so that you have plenty of room. In the site we camped in, you couldn't see anything but forest from the "door side" of the camper. Because of that, sitting around the fire pit made you feel as if everything was completely private.
The scenery was spectacular, and everything at the campground was clean and well-maintained.
It had that perfect combination of feeling remote, but still being close to civilization... There was a small grocery store in Divide, about 7 miles away.

Our Opinion

Everything was absolutely perfect, and we would love to go back!

Things to See and Do

We didn't have enough time to see everything in the area, but we enjoyed these places:

Cripple Creek and Victor Narrow Gauge Railroad
The railroad provided an enjoyable, short trip around the remains of some mining sites near Cripple Creek.

Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument
This was an interesting place to visit. There are huge petrified stumps left behind from redwood trees. The visitor center contains several examples of insect, leaf, and fish fossils.

Vindicator Valley Trail
This trail is just northeast of the town of Victor. It is a short and interesting trail around the remnants of old mining buildings and equipment.
