Mountaindale Cabins and RV Resort
The Basics
ADDRESS: 2000 Barrett Road, Colorado Springs, CO
LOCATION: Approximately 20 miles Southwest of Colorado Springs
LAST VISIT: 2016
I didn't get a campsite photo at this one... I only have a photo of a deer wandering through the campground.
Mountaindale is a very pleasant place to stay that's "off the beaten path." It's not quite close to Colorado Springs, and not quite close to some of the tourist activities in the area.
Everything is very nicely maintained, and there is a lot of attention to the details and the landscaping.
It appeared that they focused heavily on creating a community for retirees who were there long term, or returned frequently. There were ice cream socials, and a whole calendar of group events to sign up for. For example, one of the trips we noticed when we were there was a day trip to a Colorado Rockies baseball game.
The "long term community members" were extremely welcoming when I ran into other campers in the laundry facilities or as we went on walks around the campground.
Our Opinion
It was a very friendly, peaceful, and relaxed place to stay, and we would stay there again!
Things to See and Do
We didn't have enough time to see many things in the area, but we enjoyed these places:
Bishop Castle
This is about 55 miles south of the campground. It is impossible to describe - in 1969, a man named Jim Bishop started building a stone castle, and has been working on it piece by piece, ever since. The castle includes a lot of ornate ironwork, a fire-breathing dragon, and a grand ballroom. Admission is free.
ADX Florence (a Supermax prison known as the "Alcatraz of the Rockies")
I'm kidding. We did not get sent to Supermax; we just drove by on the way to Bishop Castle.
