Denver West/Central City KOA Holiday
The Basics
ADDRESS: 605 Lake Gulch Road, Central City, Colorado
LOCATION: Just south of Central City, about 50 miles west of Denver
LAST VISIT: 2024
Our stop at this campground wasn't a "destination stop." We stayed a night or two as we were traveling to our destination.
It is conveniently located on Central City Parkway, south of Central City, so you don't have to navigate through Central City to get there from I-70. It is tucked back a bit from the highway, so you need to keep an eye out for the sign.
The spot we stayed in had plenty of room and was easy to get in and out of. The campground is well laid out and easy to navigate.
You can order pizza and wings from the campground and have them delivered to your camper.
We found everything to be well-maintained, and everything functioned as expected.
The rates are high, but it is extremely difficult to find a "big rig friendly," full hookup spot in the area, so they are not unreasonable, even if they do make my eyes water a little.
Our Opinion
We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
Things to See and Do
We didn't have enough time to see everything in the area, but we enjoyed these places:
Central City Opera House
We liked the style of the building exterior, and enjoyed the landscaping and gardens on both sides of the building.
Apex Road Backcountry Drive
This drive starts about a mile from Central City. It's an easy drive, and wanders through mining country and the town of Apex. There isn't much left of the town, but it's interesting to check out.
